St. George Triathlon... Er Make that a Bi-athlon

I'd like to call myself a triathlete, but in reality I only do one triathlon a year and it's the St. George triathlon every May. I always finish the race and feel motivated to sign up for another.... and then I don't. Now I have to find a new race because I have decided to boycott the St. George Tri. It used to be small and fun, but now it's full of those obnoxious people that have the "I'm a triathlete, and I rock" attitude. These people drive me crazy. Anyway, that's a whole other story.
I enjoy the triathlon for one reason. I differ from most triathlon competitors for the simple fact that I actually like the swim. For me it's like a headstart. I always feel like I'm winning because I can swim fast, which gives me a lead for the rest of the race. It's awesome! I get this extra little adrenaline rush for the bike and run (I said little... I'm still not that fast). Anyway, they CANCELLED the swim this year! They started a few heats and had to drag so many people out of the water that they decided it was "unsafe" to let us swim... please, since when is safety a factor?? After standing around for 45 minutes while they made this decision every ounce of motivation left me. Riding my bike through a windy sandstorm and up a 1/2 mile hill with a headwind didn't help my irritation any. In fact, I don't think I actually enjoyed the race this year one bit until I was running the last stretch of race. Then I got a medal for finishing a triathlon... Oh wait... biathlon. That doesn't even sound cool.

Anyway, here are some 'not so awesome' pictures from the race.
*This is obviously before I knew the swim was cancelled. That wetsuit is a pain in the a** to get into... but don't I look adorable in it??
**Please note: Everyone around us is folding their arms around their body because they are freezing. Too bad I'm so smart and I got in the water to warm up, so I was nice and wet for the bike.
**This is me cursing the race as I prepare for the bike ride in the windstorm. The windbreaker did break the wind... but also acted as a parachute. Sometimes I felt like I wasn't moving. Good times.
*This is the mass start for the bike ride. If you could see my face you would probably laugh at how pissed I look. Remember... I had lost motivation, AND my patience for obnixious "triathletes"

**My dad by the pool. He made a face for the picture because he didn't want to look like he was really interested in Lauren and Heidi drama... but he actually requested I bring this magazine to the pool. Sorry for outting you Dad.

*My niece totally has attitude and I LOVE it! I asked her to stop and look at the camera so I could take a picture. Her response (as she's walking away) "I AM looking at the camera while I walk Kris!" Jeez, sorry Gwen. Isn't she a babe?

I heard about it brandon was down there not for the race but alot of his friends were in it. I so know what you mean about people thinking there a triathlete and there so just doing it so they can say they did. its like the thing to do it brandons group of friends its kind of annoying. Anyways I would have been annoyed as well and all of my motivation would have been swept away as well.Good for you for sticking it out looks like you did well anyways....

Great job Tina - you are amazing! Sorry about the swim, that stinks, but you still rock! I LOVE the pic of your dad reading the Hills Drama, too funny!

Bummer K. You do look especially stunning in that wetsuit. I´ve sort of got an itch to try a triathalon, but haven´t yet looked for one to do. I tried to swim a couple weeks ago at the 24 in Sugarhouse...no one told me to take goggles! I spent an hour doing a back stroke and head-above-water breaststroke. Maybe this Tri-turned Bi would have been an answer to my prayers!
