By the way, we really did experience a near rattle snake attack on our way down the trail. Jake jumped passed it once he heard the rattle, but I couldn't bring myself to jump... I was certain the snake would clamp on to my leg or something and Jake would have to suck out the poison. So I threw a ginormous rock at the villainous snake (and actually hit it... a rareity for me throwing at a target) and we ran for our lives. When we realized we were on a switchback and would have to pass the same area the snake had been on the previous switchback I nearly peed my pants... but then we made it safely, so all was well. I would have taken a picture, but Jake had the camera and was on the other side of the snake from me, plus, let's be honest... I was terrified.
It was a great Saturday activity and I highly recommend it. Jake and I thought about becoming hard core trail runners after this great morning... but then we faced reality. Hopefully we will at least take advantage of the beautiful mountains that surround us on a more regular basis.
Here's proof that we made it to the top... Louie too.

OMG. Just looking at those pictures brings back horrifying memories of Lake Powell. I'm all sweaty now. Thanks.
The pictures are adorable. I'm encouraging/begging Porter to let us start a "family" and get a dog. But, we're argueing on the kind to get. =(
We're coming to SLC this weekend. We'll only really be in town for Saturday...since we're driving Friday/Sunday. I hate driving but we've got tons of wedding gifts to transport back to Vegas. Ugh.
Oh my gosh I would have freaked out if I saw a rattle snake. Your brave I dont know what I would have done but that is the main reason why I dont hike so I dont have to worry about snakes. Your dog is so cute to by the way I am sure he loved it. Great pics up at the top you look amazing as always...
It's official, Louie and Stella definitely need a play date. He is SO cute and I think they would have a blast. We'll have to do it before it gets cold and Stella hibernates in front of our heating vents for 4 months.
I don't like snakes at all and i'm quite sure I would have ran back down the trail. I guess I need to take some lessons from you.... :) We haven't been hiking here yet and to be honest there aren't any hills (they don't have mountains here) around where we live.
great story!
I've been on that same hike and seen those same horrible creatures! I freaked right out too!
For sure next weekend! Let's make it happen. I'll talk to Gordon. He's going to San Diego this weekend so next weekend is great!
That looks so fun... but maybe not in my condition?! You're cool.
