Big Golf Tournament today with my office. Apparently it's a scramble (don't call it a 'scrambler' because your co-workers will laugh at you) so the fact that I don't golf won't be that big of a deal. Two weeks ago an email was sent out requesting we all send in our golf handicap so they could fairly arrange the teams. I decided that instead of sounding like an idiot and asking what the heck is a golf handicap??? I would just rate myself on a scale from 1 - 10. I am a 1... and that is being generous.
For practice my awesome husband scheduled some time for us at the driving range last night. As we were pulling up he asked "Now are you going to listen and do what I tell you?" This is a sign that Jake is fully aware of my stubbornness and tendency to get irritated when someone tries to tell me what to do. But I had to give in on this occassion... I don't golf, and I was in need of some serious instruction.
So we hit golf balls (and in my case missed some golf balls) and had fun while doing it. Coach Jake had me practice swinging each club, he taught me how to stretch properly for golf, and he gave me 3 Golden Rules to abide by for the big Tournament today.
1. I am having fun (Jake says if I have a bad attitude the whole day will be ruined). So I am to remind myself often that I am having fun... or try to convince myself... I'm not sure which it will be.
2. Visualize my shot before I take it. Take 2 practice swings before each shot.
3. KEEP MY HEAD DOWN. I was told that if I forget all other rules, to at least remember to keep my head down.
I feel a little better after last night's lesson. I can't really say that I'm going to kill it today... but I at least think I'll be able to hit the ball... sometimes (if I keep my head down).
(Deep breath) Here I go.
